Lake Powell – Navigate 96 Canyons
With Confidence

Lake Powell is 186 miles long with 96 major canyons, 2,000 miles of shoreline, and some of the most dramatic water level changes in the West. It’s also one of the most remote boating destinations in the country – with little to no cell service across most of the lake.

Lake Genius is the boating app built for exactly this. Daily underwater hazard updates, 2,000+ points of interest, GPS route tracking, and full offline maps – so you can explore every canyon with confidence, even when you’re completely off the grid.

Why Lake Powell Needs Lake Genius

Lake Powell is spectacular – and unforgiving if you’re not prepared. Here’s what makes it different from most lakes, and why the right app matters.

Underwater hazard warning icon

Water levels change dramatically

Lake Powell has experienced some of the most significant water level fluctuations of any reservoir in the West. As levels drop, underwater hazards that were safely submerged last season can sit just beneath the surface today. A contour map from last year doesn’t reflect what the lake looks like now.

Underwater hazards are everywhere

Submerged rocks, ledges, and debris have caused thousands of dollars in propeller and hull damage to boaters at Lake Powell. Boat repair shops in the region report $5,000–$10,000+ as routine. Some rental operations keep boxes of destroyed propellers on display because it’s that common.

Cell service is nearly nonexistent

Once you leave the marina, most of Lake Powell has zero cellular coverage. Your phone’s built-in maps won’t load. A boating app that requires internet is useless here. Lake Genius works completely offline once you’ve downloaded the maps.

It’s massive

Ninety-six major canyons. 2,000 miles of shoreline. Without a guide or a local’s knowledge, it’s easy to miss the best spots and waste limited vacation time exploring the wrong areas. Lake Genius maps over 800 points of interest at Lake Powell alone – so you explore like a local from day one.

See What’s Under the Water at Lake Powell

The X-Ray View is Lake Genius’s signature feature – and it’s most critical at Lake Powell, where water level changes are the most dramatic of any lake we cover.

As you zoom into any area of Lake Powell, the app reveals a 3D visualization of the underwater terrain. Rocks, ledges, and hazards within 9 feet of the surface become visible. The current shoreline is highlighted in red. And the data updates every night at midnight – so you’re always seeing today’s conditions, not last month’s.

No other boating app updates underwater hazards daily for Lake Powell.

TODAY’S WATER LEVEL

Lake Powell Water Level – Updated Daily

Lake Powell’s water level is one of the most closely watched numbers in the western United States. It affects everything from which canyons are navigable to which hazards are exposed to where the shoreline actually is today.

Lake Genius tracks Lake Powell’s water level daily, updating at midnight. Open the app and see the current level in feet or meters, with the shoreline highlighted in red on your map. Use it to plan your trip from home or check conditions before you launch.

MARINAS & FUEL DOCKS

Lake Powell Marinas – All Mapped in the App

Lake Powell’s marinas are your lifeline on the water – for fuel, supplies, boat repair, and launching. Lake Genius maps every major marina with contact details, services, and navigation so you always know where to go and how to get there.

Wahweap Marina

The largest and most popular marina at Lake Powell, located near Page, Arizona. Full-service fuel dock, boat rentals, lodging, and dining. The primary launching point for most visitors coming from the south.

Antelope Point Marina

A popular alternative to Wahweap, also near Page. Lake Genius has an active partnership with the Antelope Point Marina team – the owner and marina manager actively recommend Lake Genius to their customers.

Bullfrog Marina

Located mid-lake on the Utah side, Bullfrog is the primary access point for boaters coming from Salt Lake City and northern Utah. Fuel, boat launch, and basic services available.

Halls Crossing Marina

Across the lake from Bullfrog, connected by the Charles Hall Ferry. A quieter access point with fuel and launch facilities.

Dangling Rope Marina (CLOSED)

Dangling Rope is no longer operational and all services have been relocated. Lake Genius gives you access to the most up-to-date information, so you can avoid unwanted surprises.

Hite Marina

The northernmost access point at Lake Powell. Water levels have significantly affected access at Hite in recent years – check current conditions before planning to launch here.

All six marinas are mapped as points of interest in the Lake Genius app, with details and navigation available online and offline.

SLOT CANYONS, PETROGLYPHS & HIDDEN BEACHES

Explore Lake Powell’s Slot Canyons, Petroglyphs & Hidden Beaches

Lake Powell isn’t just about boating – it’s one of the most geologically spectacular places in the world. Lake Genius maps the destinations that make this lake unforgettable, so you spend your time experiencing them instead of searching for them.

Over 2,000 points of interest are curated by the Lake Genius team across all of our lakes, with more being added frequently. At Lake Powell, the coverage spans slot canyons, petroglyphs, arches, beaches, fishing spots, camping areas, and every marina and facility on the lake.

Plan Your Lake Powell Trip Before You Leave Home

Most people get one or two trips to Lake Powell a year. Some families plan a houseboat trip once every few years. That’s not a lot of time to figure out where to go, what to see, and how to stay safe on the water.

Lake Genius lets you plan your entire trip from your couch. Open the app at home, browse the map, explore canyons, check points of interest, mark the spots you want to visit, and build a route. When you arrive at the lake, your plan is ready – and it works offline.

For houseboat renters who book months or even a year in advance, the ability to plan from home turns an anxious countdown into an exciting one.

Lake Powell Weather – One Tap Away

Lake Powell stretches across open water where storms can build and move fast. Wind, rain, and lightning can turn a perfect day dangerous in minutes – especially in the wider stretches of the lake away from canyon shelter.

Lake Genius gives you one-tap access to NOAA weather data for any point on Lake Powell. Tap your current location or any spot on the map to see current conditions, wind speed, temperature, and precipitation forecasts. Use it to decide whether to head out, when to come in, or which part of the lake offers better conditions today. Weather checks in Lake Genius do require cellular service.

Works Offline – Even Deep in the Canyons

Here’s the reality at Lake Powell: once you leave the marina area, you are almost certainly without cell service. Your phone’s map won’t load. A boating app that needs internet won’t work. If you didn’t plan ahead, you’re navigating blind.

Lake Genius is built for this. Download the Lake Powell maps to your device before your trip – at home, at the hotel, or at the marina while you still have Wi-Fi. Once downloaded, every core feature works offline:

Weather info and water level updates require an internet connection when you access those features. Download your maps and check the latest conditions before you launch, and you’re set for the day.
